  DECATUR COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

The Decatur County Board of Commissioners usually meets twice a month in the Commissioners' Boardroom of the County's Administrative Office located at 203 West Broughton Street, pictured above to left of County Seal. The Decatur County Courthouse, pictured on the right of seal, faces Water Street, one block north of the Administrative Offices in downtown Bainbridge.

DECATUR COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

DISTRICT 1 - JAN GODWIN
District 1 covers Southeastern Decatur County and the City of Attapulgus

In January, 2013, Jan Godwin was appointed to fill the unexpired term of District 1 Commissioner, Earl Perry. She became a Certified County Commissioner in April, 2014, after completeing a county commission training program with the University of Georgia and ACCG (Association of County Commissioners of Georgia). Jan is a lifelong resident of Decatur County and has lived on a small farm north of Attapulgus for almost 35 years. She earned the Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communications with Public Relations Emphasis from Florida State University in 2005. She also earned Associate degrees in English and Secretarial Science from Bainbridge College. She is a 1976 graduate of Bainbridge High School.

Jan worked in the Marketing Department at Memorial Hospital and Manor for 17 years and taught part-time at Bainbridge State College. She has prior work experience at Bainbridge College and at the University of Georgia Extension-Research Center in Attapulgus.

As a 7th generation Decatur Countian with two adult sons, Jan is interested in preserving the history and natural resources of the county while promoting economic development and growth.

DISTRICT 2 - DR. DAVID C. "BUTCH" MOSELY
District 2 covers Eastern Decatur County and the City of Climax

Dr. David C. "Butch" Mosely (D) is married to June Mosely. He has served as a commissioner since 2005. Butch served as school superintendent at several locations inside and outside of Decatur County. He is a Certified County Commissioner.

Butch heads a local hunting preserve and manages other interests that take up the majority of his time. He currently serves on the commissioners' Library Committee and is always available to discuss County matters.

DISTRICT 3 - DENNIS BRINSON

District 2 covers Eastern Decatur County and the City of Climax

Dennis Brinson is a native of Decatur County. He is a 1994 graduate of Bainbridge High School and a Graduate of Euro Hair Designs Institute, formerly of Tallahassee, Florida. He holds a State of Georgia Master Barbers License and is the owner of Classic Designs Barber & Beauty Salon, located at 215 N. Scott Street in Bainbridge. He has worked in the public as a businessman for the last 26 years, lending his services to the people of Decatur County. Commissioner Brinson serves as the fulltime Assistant Pastor of the Saint Paul Missionary Baptist Church. He has served on various committees and boards throughout Decatur and surrounding counties.

He is married to the former Kesha King also of Decatur County. Together they have two daughters, Elizabeth and Jamya Brinson. His hobbies includes watching documentaries, playing golf and wood construction. Dennis has served this community with integrity through his business and religious affiliations. He plans to continue his service as a County Commissioner. Effective January 2014, He is serving Vice-Chairman of the Board.

DISTRICT 4 - FRANK LOEFFLER
District 4 covers Central Decatur County, Southeast Bainbridge

Frank Loeffler graduated from Missouri Valley College with a major in economics in 1963. He worked for International Harvester Company from 1964 to 1978, first in U.S. markets and from 1972 to 1978, in overseas markets. He also worked for Vada Builders and then went into business for himself with Loeffler International, a farm equipment dealership. He worked for the Board of Education as Director of Transportation for 11 years before working for Flint River Mills until 2006.

Mr. Loeffler is past president of the Historical Society and YMCA, former Humane Society Board Member and former member of the Rotary Club. He is a current member of the Lions Club, the Arts Council and serves on the Board of KDCB. His hobbies are golfing, fishing, wood turning and boating.

Mr. Loeffler has been married 48 years to Suzanne Loeffler, who retired as a teacher for the Board of Education and is presently teaching for Grace Christian Academy. They have two sons, Mark and Brent Loeffler, and two grandchildren. The Loefflers are members of the First United Methodist Church. Effective January 2013, 2014 he is serving as Chairman of the Board.

DISTRICT 5 - RUSSELL SMITH
District 5 covers Southwestern Decatur County, Lake Seminole area

Russell Smith (D) is a Certified County Commissioner and a graduate of the Certified Commissioner Advanced Program. He is retired from the Florida Department of Corrections after working there for more than 34 years. He served as Chief Inspector/Investigator for more than seven years and retired as a Prison Warden. Commissioner Smith is married to Diann Ostrander Smith and has two children and four grandchildren. He is a graduate of Attapulgus High School and received an Associate of Science Degree in Criminology from South Georgia College. During his tenure with the Florida Department of Corrections, he received numerous law enforcement, management and corrections courses. He is a Vietnam Veteran who lives near his birthplace on a farm in Southwest Decatur County.

Commissioner Smith is a member of Sylvania Methodist Church, the NWTF Lake Seminole Spurs, and Bainbridge VFW Post 4904. He is active in promoting hunting and other events for the disabled. Commissioner Smith serves on the Southwest Georgia Regional Commission Board, the Board of Health, and the Development Authority Board.

DISTRICT 6 - OLIVER SELLERS
District 6 covers Northwestern Decatur County and the City of Brinson

Oliver Sellers is employed as Code Enforcement Officer and Hazardous Material Inspector for a nearby county. He is also a member of the County's Solid Waste Advisory Committee. He resides close to Brinson and has been in the same location for 62 years. He has been married to Barbara Williams Sellers for 39 years. They have two daughters and three grandchildren.

Sellers is a U.S. Army veteran who served in Korea, and is a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He has been a member of the Brinson Fire Department since 1980. He is a small business owner in downtown Bainbridge and his favorite sport is fishing.

The Board of Commissioners meet twice a month, on the second and fourth Tuesday. The meeting on the second Tuesday of each month is held at 9 a.m. and the one on the fourth Tuesday of each month is held at 7 p.m.

The next meeting of the Decatur County Board of Commissioners is Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at 7:00pm in the Administration Building.
