  DECATUR COUNTY ADMINISTRATIVE STAFF

 

COUNTY ADMINISTRATOR - TOM PATTON
 
Tom Patton, County Administrator 

  The County Administrator is Tom L. Patton. He serves as the top-level manager for overall operations of the Decatur County government and all of its departments. Prior to accepting the position of Decatur County Administrator in Sept. 2006, Patton was City Manager for the City of Cornelia, Ga. He retired from the U.S. Marine Corps after 35 years of service with the rank of Colonel after serving both in the infantry in Vietnam and in later conflicts as a Marine Aviator and in various command positions including Commanding Officer and Chief of Staff. He provided expert support to the military services and Department of Defense as a military consultant from 2001 to 2003, before accepting the post in Cornelia.

COUNTY CLERK - BEVERLY KING
Beverly is the County Clerk and is responsible for the minutes for all meetings and also directly oversees payroll payments and non-payroll payments originating from the County Administrator's office. She is also responsible for creating and issuing any reports originating from the County Administrator's office.

Beverly has been employed in this position since January 2006, but has been employed by the County since June 2005. She serves Decatur County in many ways, including providing minutes for Official County Meetings.

ACCOUNTING TECHNICIAN - MICHELLE WEST
Michelle is an Accounting Technician and is responsible for overseeing accounting functions of accounts payable, payroll and accounts receivable. Michelle also takes care of other areas of bookkeeping for Decatur County. Michelle has been employed with Decatur County since 1993.

ACCOUNTING TECHNICIAN - MARTI EVANS
Marti is an Accounting Technician responsible for overseeing accounts payable, payroll and accounts receivable. Marti also takes care of other areas of bookkeeping for Decatur County. Marti has been employed with Decatur County since January 2006.

FINANCE DIRECTOR - CARL ROWLAND
Carl serves as the Finance Directory for Decatur County and has been with the County since May 2006. Carl is responsible for overseeing all of the accounting, bank accounts, landfill accounts and reports, bid openings and financial data reports related to Decatur County. Carl also oversees and manages the annual budget for the County.

COUNTY TREASURER- CLAUDE SHIRLEY
Claude serves as the county treasurer for Decatur County. Claude was elected to his position in 2004. He serves Decatur County by signing checks, reviewing and submitting financial reports to the County Commission and to Grand Jury and works closely with the finance director on other financial matters.


RECEPTIONIST - MAE JOHNSON
Mae serves as the receptionist for Decatur County. Mae has been employed in this position since April 2006. She is responsible for receptionist duties, requisitions, purchase orders and various other tasks.

HUMAN RESOURCES DIRECTOR - MARJORIE MAYFIELD

Marjorie Mayfield is the Director of Human Resources for the Decatur County Board of Commissioners. She was hired in June 2007 and is a Certified Professional in Human Resources with over 15 years of Human Resources/Management/Supervisory experience. She is currently serving as Chairman of the Southwest GA Employer Committee,  Co-Chair of the Georgia Certified Work Ready Community Program and is a member of the Board of Directors of the United Way of Bainbridge.

ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT TO TOM PATTON - BARBARA PARSONS

Barbara Parsons began working for Decatur County as Administrative Assistant to County Administrator Tom Patton in February 2008. She is responsible for assisting him with correspondence and assists other staff members at the Administrative Offices on Broughton Street as needed. She sometimes handles communications/media releases, researches various projects for Mr. Patton and the commissioners, maintains correspondence files and news archives and helps manage the county Web site.

Keep Decatur County Beautiful’s Electronic Recycling Event is coming up Saturday, August 23rd at Decatur County Fairgrounds -1213 Vada Hwy., from 10am – 2 pm. At this time, local residents can drop off old personal computers, monitors, LCD screen/flat screen monitors, VCRs, radios, stereos, DVD players, microwaves, power supplies, rechargeable batteries, vacuums, banking equipment, telephones, pagers, networking equipment, laptops, keyboards, mice, power cables, medical equipment (non-hazardous), printers, copy machines, fax machines, cell phones, transformers, scanners, portable electronic devices, servers, HUBS, ink and toner cartridges, remotes, modems, projectors, cameras, and televisions ($10/set charge to leave tv sets.) *Items Not Accepted: Refrigerators, washing machines, clothes dryers, dishwashers, mercury containing devices (thermometers, fire alarms), hazardous chemicals/materials, light bulbs, fluorescent tubes, bio-waste. (*NOTE: appliances ARE accepted at both Decatur County Landfills.  For information, call 465-3188.)

County Calendar

The next regular Board of Commissioners meeting is 7 p.m. Tuesday, August 26, 2008, at County Administrative offices on Broughton Street. Call 248-3030 for more information. Commission minutes from previous meetings can be viewed at bottom of County Commission main page.

The Second Annual Decatur County Employee Health Fair will be held Tuesday, August 19, at the Administration Building at 203 W. Broughton St., from 6:30 am to 3 pm. It is recommended that any employee wishing to participate in the free lab work should fast at least 12 hours before having blood drawn. Smoking Cessation classes begin in September, as well as a series of "Lunch & Learn" health sessions. Employees must register for these free classes at the Health Fair. A Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax election will be held Tuesday, September 16, 2008 for the purpose of allowing citizens to decide if they want to renew the one cent tax in Decatur County, which, if passed, is expected to generate a total amount of $36,867,625 in five years for use by the county, the Hospital Authority and the county's four municipalities to pay for infrastructure improvements, capital projects and capital purchases.
